Pirate bugs (Lyctocoris campestris) are often found in grain bins they feed on pests right after hatching. They live about Three months feeding on prey and can survive up to three weeks without any food or water.
Pirate bugs eat the larvae of moths, Red flour beetles, grain beetles and many warehouse beetles. Pirate bugs are good guys when compared to the pests they consume. They don't get inside grain kernels, and do not they eat the grain. Their presence in warehouses and storage facilities poses no danger to the grain, and can be easily removed during processing.
Be on the lookout my fellow pigeon fliers. If this method proves to be cost effictive we are sure to see more of them in our pigeon feed.
