The information below was compiled by E. H. Eaton and is taken from Leon Whitney's book Keep Your Pigeons Flying, published in 1961. The following table, compiled by Eaton, lists the hawks found in America. Of these hawks, 4 are beneficial, 2 are borderline and 5 are injurious. The information in the table was based on the examination of the stomach contents of 2,700 hawks.

Some people feel that the injurious hawks should be removed from the protected mirgreating birds list because the programs returning them into wild have over populated them and are putting other birds at risk of exstinction.
